Pakhuis Conebush - Leucadendron concavumThe Pakhuis Conebush is another Cederberg endemic, known only from around the Pakhuis Pass. Atlassers have doubled its known distribution range, mainly to the north of the Pass. Like all Conebushes, the plants have separate sexes. With its hairy fruit, the Pakhuis Conebush is a member of the Sandveld Conebushes, which seem to just drop their seeds onto the ground where rodents can eat them. The Pakhuis Conebush is closely related to the Cederberg Conebush Ld dubium Vuurslaanbos, which has smaller leaves and a much wider distribution. The Pakhuis Conebush flowers for a few weeks between August and September and appears to be wind pollinated. However, we know little about its flowering and growth habits outside of this period. |
